lasher
One who flogs
A lasher is someone who lashes—one who whips, ties down cargo, or delivers verbal attacks.
In industrial contexts, a lasher secures containers on ships or flatbed trucks using chains and straps.
The word also names a weir or dam that creates a stretch of still water, or the pool formed behind it: We swam in the lasher below the mill.
