kontakion
Eastern liturgical chant
A kontakion is a hymn in Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic liturgy, typically a short poetic sermon sung during services.
Originally these were elaborate compositions of many stanzas; the modern kontakion is usually a condensed version—a single stanza summarizing the feast day's significance: The kontakion for Pascha celebrates Christ's resurrection.
