Magnificat

Virgin's praise song

The Magnificat is the Virgin Mary's hymn of praise in Luke 1:46-55, spoken when she visits Elizabeth after the Annunciation.

Named for its opening word in Latin ("magnifies"), it has been part of Christian liturgy for centuries, sung or recited at vespers and evening prayer: The choir chanted the Magnificat. (Lowercase magnificat is a musical setting of this text.)
