acrostic

Poem spelling downward

An acrostic is a composition—usually a poem—in which certain letters, typically the first letter of each line, spell out a word or message when read vertically: The children wrote acrostics of their names.

The hidden word is also called an acrostic.

Double acrostics use both first and last letters; triple acrostics add middle letters.
