kibbutzim

Collective Israeli farms

Kibbutzim is the plural of kibbutz, a collective farming community in Israel where property is held in common and members share work and decision-making.

The kibbutz movement, rooted in socialist and Zionist ideals, established hundreds of these settlements beginning in the early twentieth century.

Many have since privatized or shifted away from strict collectivism: Several kibbutzim now operate as mixed economies.
