Golan
Syrian border heights
Golan refers to the Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in the Middle East bordering Syria, Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon.
Israel captured the territory from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed it, though most of the international community considers it occupied Syrian land.
The name appears frequently in discussions of Middle East conflict: negotiations over the Golan, Israeli settlements in the Golan.
