boondocking

Camping without hookups

Boondocking is camping in remote areas without hookups to water, electricity, or sewage—typically in an RV or camper.

The term comes from boondocks, meaning rough backcountry.

Boondockers rely on their vehicle's batteries, water tanks, and generators: We spent a week boondocking in the desert.

Also called dry camping or wild camping.
