imperial system

Miles over kilometers

The imperial system is a collection of units for measuring length, weight, and volume—feet, pounds, gallons, and their relatives.

It developed in Britain and persists in the United States, where it's often called the customary system.

The metric system has largely displaced it elsewhere: Americans cling to the imperial system while most of the world uses metric.
