Three Sisters
Blue Mountains landmarks
Three Sisters refers to the traditional Native American agricultural practice of planting corn, beans, and squash together—crops that benefit each other when grown in combination.
The corn provides a stalk for beans to climb, beans fix nitrogen in the soil, and squash leaves shade the ground to retain moisture and discourage weeds.
The term also names a Chekhov play about three provincial Russian sisters longing for Moscow.
