hulks

Clumsy heavy things

Hulks is the plural of hulk, referring to large, heavy, often clumsy things or people.

Old ships stripped of their fittings and used for storage or as prisons were called hulks: convicts sentenced to the hulks.

A person who hulks moves heavily or looms threateningly: He hulks around the gym intimidating everyone.

The Hulk, Marvel's green-skinned strongman, has made the word nearly synonymous with massive muscularity: He really hulked out after six months of training.
