hoopskirt
Victorian undergarment frame
A hoopskirt is a wide skirt held out by a framework of flexible hoops, fashionable in the mid-19th century.
The structure created a bell or dome shape, allowing fabric to drape dramatically without the weight of heavy petticoats: Her hoopskirt barely fit through the doorway.
Also called a crinoline.
