hiphop
Urban music culture
Hip-hop is a cultural movement originating in Black and Latino communities in 1970s New York, encompassing rap music, DJing, breakdancing, and graffiti art.
The term most commonly refers to the music itself—rhythmic vocals over beats: I grew up listening to hip-hop.
As an adjective, it describes the broader culture: hip-hop fashion, hip-hop dance.
Also spelled hip hop or hip-hop.
