airplane hijacking
Seizing airborne transport
Airplane hijacking is the criminal seizure of an aircraft, typically by threat or force, to divert it to an unintended destination or hold passengers hostage.
Hijackers may demand ransom, political concessions, or transport to another country.
The wave of airplane hijackings in the 1970s led to mandatory airport security screening.
