herpes zoster
Reactivated chickenpox virus
Herpes zoster is the medical term for shingles—a painful skin condition caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus in people who had the disease earlier in life.
It produces a blistering rash, typically in a band along one side of the body, following a nerve pathway.
The doctor diagnosed herpes zoster and prescribed antivirals.
