zoster
Painful blistering rash
Zoster is the medical term for shingles, a painful skin condition caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus.
It typically appears as a band of blisters along one side of the body, following a nerve pathway.
The term comes from a Greek word meaning belt or girdle, describing how the rash wraps around the torso.
Herpes zoster is the full clinical name.
