dermatome
Nerve-mapped skin area
A dermatome is a surgical instrument for cutting thin slices of skin, typically for grafting.
In anatomy, a dermatome is an area of skin supplied by a single spinal nerve—knowledge essential for diagnosing nerve damage or planning anesthesia: The rash followed a dermatomal pattern along his ribcage.
The term also refers to the embryonic tissue that develops into the dermis.
