herniated

Painfully pushed out

Herniated describes tissue that has abnormally protruded through a wall or membrane meant to contain it.

Most commonly refers to spinal discs: a herniated disc occurs when the soft inner material pushes through the outer layer, often pressing on nerves and causing pain.

Also applies to other body parts: a herniated intestine protrudes through weakened abdominal muscle.
