disc herniation
Bulging spinal cushion
Disc herniation is a spinal condition where the soft inner material of an intervertebral disc pushes through a tear in its tougher outer layer.
The bulging material can press on nearby nerves, causing pain, numbness, or weakness—most commonly in the lower back or neck.
Also called a slipped disc, ruptured disc, or herniated disc: The MRI showed a disc herniation at L4-L5.
