port-wine stain
Red facial birthmark
A port-wine stain is a birthmark caused by abnormal blood vessels beneath the skin, appearing as a flat, reddish-purple patch that resembles the color of port wine.
Unlike some birthmarks, port-wine stains don't fade with age and may darken over time.
They most commonly appear on the face or neck: The baby was born with a port-wine stain on her cheek.
