neocon

Interventionist right-winger

Neocon is short for neoconservative, describing a political stance that emerged in the late twentieth century favoring aggressive American foreign policy, military intervention to spread democracy, and robust defense spending.

Originally applied to former liberals who shifted rightward, it now often carries critical connotations: The neocons pushed for the Iraq War.

As a noun, a neocon is someone holding these views.
