hawking

Trained raptor sport

Hawking is the practice of hunting with trained birds of prey—falcons, hawks, or eagles—an ancient sport also called falconry.

Separately, hawking means selling goods aggressively, often by calling out in public: street vendors hawking their wares.

To hawk something is also to promote it insistently: politicians hawking their policies on talk shows.

As a bodily function, hawking is clearing the throat noisily to expel phlegm.
