hawks
Taloned aerial predators
Hawks are birds of prey with sharp talons, hooked beaks, and keen eyesight—smaller than eagles but equally predatory.
The word extends to people who favor aggressive or military action, especially in politics, opposed to doves who prefer diplomacy: Defense hawks pushed for intervention.
To hawk is to sell aggressively, often by calling out in public: vendors hawking their wares.
A different hawk means to clear the throat noisily.
