tercel
Falconry's smaller male
A tercel is a male hawk or falcon, especially as used in falconry.
The term applies particularly to the male peregrine falcon.
Males are typically about a third smaller than females—the name comes from a word meaning "third." The falconer released his tercel to hunt.
