peacenik

Anti-war activist type

Peacenik is an informal, often dismissive term for someone who actively opposes war and military intervention.

The -nik suffix, borrowed from Russian via beatnik and sputnik, adds a slightly mocking tone, suggesting the person's pacifism is naive or excessive.

The word emerged during the Vietnam War era to describe antiwar protesters and remains in use today.

The senator dismissed the peaceniks protesting outside her office.
