gravure
Incised image transfer
Gravure is a printing process in which the image is etched into a surface, with ink held in the recessed areas rather than on raised surfaces.
The term often appears in rotogravure, a high-volume method using engraved cylinders, once standard for newspaper photo supplements and magazine illustrations.
Photogravure is a finer art-printing technique prized for its tonal richness.
