woodblock printing
Relief from timber
Woodblock printing is a technique for reproducing text or images by carving a design into a block of wood, applying ink to the raised surface, and pressing it onto paper or fabric.
The oldest known printing method, it was used for centuries in East Asia before movable type.
Each block prints a single page or image: The museum displayed woodblock prints from the Edo period.
