grand viziers

Sultan's chief ministers

Grand viziers is the plural of grand vizier, the chief minister or highest-ranking official in the Ottoman Empire and some other Islamic states.

The grand vizier held enormous power, often governing on behalf of the sultan: The grand viziers of the Ottoman Empire wielded authority second only to the sultan himself.

The term now appears mainly in historical contexts or fantasy settings.
