tigernut
Sedge plant tuber
A tigernut is a small, wrinkled tuber from a sedge plant, not actually a nut despite the name.
Sweet and slightly chewy, tigernuts are eaten as snacks, ground into flour, or used to make horchata de chufa, a traditional Spanish drink.
They're marketed as a health food for their fiber content: Tigernut flour is popular in paleo baking.
