goosestepping

Parade ground strut

Goosestepping is marching with legs held stiff and straight, swinging high from the hip without bending the knee.

The exaggerated, mechanical gait is associated with military parades, especially those of Nazi Germany and other authoritarian regimes: Soldiers goosestepped past the reviewing stand.

The term often carries connotations of rigid conformity or fascism.
