god-child

Spiritual sponsor's ward

A god-child is someone for whom another person has assumed spiritual responsibility at baptism.

The godparent traditionally pledges to guide the child's religious upbringing: She's been my godmother since I was a baby, and I'm her only god-child.

Also spelled as one word: godchild.
