genderizing
Categorizing by sex
Genderizing is assigning or attributing gender to something—whether people, objects, language, or concepts.
The term often appears in discussions of marketing that targets boys versus girls, or grammatical systems that classify nouns as masculine or feminine: Critics accused the toy company of genderizing children's play.
It can describe either the act of making gender distinctions or of reinforcing gender as a category.
