Short spiral noodles
Gemelli is a short pasta shape made of two strands twisted together, resembling intertwined twins—which is what the Italian word means.
The twists create ridges that hold sauce well: I made gemelli with pesto.
Not to be confused with gemelli muscles, a pair of small muscles in the hip.
