unpaired
Lacking its mate
Unpaired describes something without a matching partner or counterpart.
An unpaired sock has lost its mate.
In biology, unpaired electrons or chromosomes lack corresponding pairs: unpaired bases in DNA.
The word applies to anything normally expected to come in twos that stands alone: an unpaired glove, unpaired data points in a study.
