gasometer
Large gas container
A gasometer is a large cylindrical tank for storing gas, typically at a utility facility.
These structures hold gas at low pressure, with a telescoping design that rises and falls with the volume stored.
Though largely obsolete—replaced by underground storage and pipelines—gasometers remain landmarks in many industrial cities.
Also called a gasholder.
