deadpanning
Saying jokes flatly
Deadpanning is delivering humor, sarcasm, or absurdity with a completely expressionless face and flat tone—as if you're serious.
The contrast between the ridiculous content and the blank delivery creates the comedic effect: She kept deadpanning about her cat's political opinions until someone finally cracked.
The technique works precisely because it refuses to signal that a joke is happening.
