codger

Grumpy old man

A codger is an old man, usually with a note of affection or amusement: The old codger still walks three miles every morning.

The word suggests someone set in their ways, perhaps eccentric or curmudgeonly, but essentially harmless.

It's rarely used without "old" in front of it.
