framed

Set up unfairly

Framed describes something set within a frame—a picture mounted and bordered, a view bounded by a window, a face framed by hair.

In construction, a framed house has a wooden skeleton.

The past tense of frame covers these and more: She framed the photo, He framed his argument carefully.

But framed alone most often means falsely incriminated—evidence planted or manipulated to make an innocent person appear guilty: He swore he'd been framed.
