Towering mountain goal
A fourteener is a mountain peak that rises at least 14,000 feet above sea level.
The term is used almost exclusively in American mountaineering, particularly for peaks in Colorado, which has more than fifty of them: We climbed three fourteeners last summer.
Bagging fourteeners—systematically summiting them—is a popular pursuit among hikers in the Rocky Mountain states.
