four-speed
Manual transmission type
A four-speed is a manual transmission with four forward gears, or a vehicle equipped with one.
The term dates from when four gears represented a performance upgrade over three-speed transmissions: He learned to drive on his dad's old four-speed pickup.
Now largely superseded by five- and six-speed designs.
