flying dragon

Winged reptile species

A flying dragon is a small lizard of Southeast Asia with elongated ribs that extend into wing-like membranes, allowing it to glide between trees.

The name also applies to the mythical winged serpent of European legend—a fire-breathing creature that flies through the air.

In casual use, flying dragon may describe any dragon depicted with wings: The flying dragon circled the castle tower.
