skin flap
Surgical tissue patch
A skin flap is a section of skin and underlying tissue that remains partially attached to its blood supply while being moved to cover a wound or defect elsewhere on the body.
Unlike a skin graft, which is fully detached, a flap keeps its connection to ensure the tissue survives: The surgeon created a skin flap to reconstruct her nose after the accident.
The term also describes skin that has been partially torn loose by injury.
