house sparrow

Common urban bird

A house sparrow is a small, streaky-brown bird common throughout much of the world, typically found near human habitation.

Originally from Europe and Asia, it has spread to cities and farms on every continent except Antarctica.

House sparrows nest in building crevices and gather in noisy flocks: House sparrows were fighting over breadcrumbs on the sidewalk.
