naga

Hindu snake divinity

A naga is a serpent deity or spirit in Hindu and Buddhist mythology—often depicted as a cobra or half-human, half-snake being that guards treasures or sacred waters.

In fantasy gaming and fiction, nagas appear as intelligent snake creatures, sometimes with human torsos: The naga queen ruled the underwater temple.

The word comes from Sanskrit.
