fingertapping

Digits striking surface

Fingertapping is a guitar technique where notes are produced by tapping the fretboard with the fingers of both hands rather than picking or strumming.

The picking hand joins the fretting hand on the neck, allowing rapid legato passages and wider intervals than conventional playing permits.

Eddie Van Halen popularized the technique in rock music: He launched into a fingertapping solo.
