fetoscope

Womb listening device

A fetoscope is a specialized stethoscope designed to listen to a fetus's heartbeat through the mother's abdomen.

Unlike electronic fetal monitors, traditional fetoscopes are simple acoustic devices—a trumpet-shaped instrument pressed against the belly.

The term also refers to a thin fiber-optic scope inserted into the uterus to examine the fetus directly during pregnancy.
