falling for

Developing romantic feelings

Falling for has two main senses.

To fall for someone is to become romantically attracted to them: I'm falling for her.

To fall for something is to be deceived by it—to believe a lie or be taken in by a trick: Don't fall for that scam.

Both suggest losing one's footing, whether through love or gullibility.
