weightlessness

Astronaut's floating state

Weightlessness is the condition of experiencing no apparent gravitational pull—the sensation of floating freely.

Astronauts experience weightlessness in orbit, not because gravity is absent but because they're in continuous free fall around Earth.

The term extends to any feeling of lightness or buoyancy: a momentary weightlessness at the top of a roller coaster, the weightlessness of diving into water.
