expander

Makes things bigger

An expander is something that expands or causes expansion.

The term appears most often in technical contexts: a chest expander is an exercise device with resistance bands, a palate expander is an orthodontic appliance that widens the upper jaw, and in audio engineering, an expander increases the dynamic range of a signal.

In computing, expanders add ports or slots to existing hardware.
