ellipsoids
Egg-shaped solid forms
Ellipsoids are three-dimensional shapes resembling stretched or flattened spheres—like a rugby ball or a doorknob.
Each cross-section is an ellipse or circle.
The term appears in geometry, physics, and earth sciences, where the Earth itself is modeled as an oblate ellipsoid, slightly flattened at the poles: The GPS system uses an ellipsoid to approximate Earth's shape.
