crate digging
Record bin browsing
Crate digging is searching through bins of vinyl records—originally wooden crates in used record stores—to find rare, obscure, or forgotten music.
The practice is associated with DJs and hip-hop producers hunting for samples.
The term now extends to any deep search for overlooked material: I've been crate digging on YouTube for old soul tracks.
